I think "Bob the oil guy" would check the Lubrication section of the factory service manual for the proper oil pressure. The manual says more than 11 psi for idle, and 51-65 psi for 3000 rpm. It is possible a new car could go to a 0w20 and get in this range. As your engine wears then a 0w30 would be needed. Further wear might require a 0w40. The factory owners manual may list a 30 operating weight because it is a good average, since most people will not be checking oil pressure and adjusting oil weight based on this pressure. All that said, I have 78,000 miles on my TT and I use M1 0w40. From what I have read it is on the thin side of the range for a 40 operating weight. I have thought of going lighter, but am still not convinced to do this.
